South Harrison Water Corp. |
This page contains information regarding the proposed rate tariff changes filed with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) in January 2010. You can find the filing and other information about this case at the IURC web site located at www.in.gov/iurc/.
It has been 19 years since SHW last adjusted the rate customers pay for water. The previous adjustment was made in 1991.
The South Harrison Water (SHW) Board of Directors voted unanimously at their regular meeting on January 13, 2010 to proceed with a rate increase filing as per the cost of service study conducted by the utility rate accounting firm, Umbaugh & Associates. The SHW board also chose the law firm Bose McKinney & Evans to represent them during the proceedings at the IURC. Bose McKinney & Evans filed the petition with the IURC on January 26, 2010 under cause number 43850. The petition can be viewed in Adobe Acrobat format at this link.
SHW management submitted a press release to the Corydon Democrat for general circulation in their newspaper for the February 10th edition. This was done to provide notice to customers that may read the paper. The press release that was submitted can be read here in Adobe Acrobat format.
SHW management will also include a notice in the newsletter that will be sent out to every customer billing address at the end of February with the water bills. This notice was done to meet the public notice requirement of the rate filing. The newsletter can be read here in Adobe Acrobat format.
The proposed rate tariff schedule of rates and charges can be viewed at this link.
The existing rate tariff can be viewed from a link on our home page.
The Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is accepting public comments regarding the rate case filing. You can view the OUCC public notice at this link. It includes instructions for providing written comments to the OUCC regarding South Harrison Water's proposed rate increase.
FINAL UPDATE REGARDING THE RATE INCREASE: On September 8, 2010 the IURC finally approved the general rate increase for South Harrison Water. The over all average increase for customers is 23.1%. The increase is based on usage, so some will see more of an increase and some will be less. Customers using less than 1,000 gallons of water per month will actually see a rate DECREASE under the new tariff. Large users of water will see the largest increase.
The new rate will take affect with the December billing cycle (bills payable by the 15th of January 2011).
A copy of the new rate tariff is downloadable from this web site's home page under the link "Rate Schedule".
